The Story

Each actuator you buy from Progressive Automations comes with 2 built-in limit switches. Limit switches shut off power to the motor once the stroke is fully extended or retracted. You can purchase additional external limit switches to replace the current ones you have or to set different stop points. In order to setup external limit switches please take a look at our diagram under the "wiring diagram" section. The external limit switches will works with all actuator models sold from Progressive Automations except our PA-17 heavy duty models.

The limit switch by default when attached to your application shuts off power in both directions, commonly used as a failsafe device. When the limit switch button is depressed the actuator will not move. Many customers wish to use the Actuator to only cut power in one direction so they can still retract the unit once the limit switch is depressed. For this we include one diode with every limit switch. This will allow you to reverse polarity when the limit switch is depressed. We provide these two parts so you have the option of using the limit switch in two different ways.
